In 2010, Christopher joined the Paris Saint-Germain youth system. He was a member of the youth team who was runners-up in the 2015-16 UEFA Youth League. He made his debut at the age of 18, substituting Lucas Moura after 87 minutes in a 2-0 home victory. Nkunku scored his first professional goal in a 7-0 home victory over Bastia in the Coupe de France on January 7, 2017. RB Leipzig
RB Leipzig revealed his signing on a five-year contract for an estimated €13 million transfer fee plus bonuses on July 18, 2019. Nkunku then made his debut for the club in a DFB-Pokal match against Vfl Osnabruck, which ended in a 3-2 win on August 11. His Bundesliga debut followed after a week, scoring his first competitive goal on the first matchday of the 2019-20 season in a 4-0 victory against regional rivals Union Berlin. He provided 4 assists in a 5-0 win against Schalke 04 on February 22, 2020. He became the second player in recent Bundesliga history to register 4 assists in one match, following Szabolcs Huszti in 2012.
Nkunku then scored a hat-trick for Leipzig in their 6-3 loss to Manchester City in a 2021-22 UEFA Champions League group stage match on September 15, 2021. He became the first player in the club’s history to score a hat-trick in the Champions League. Nkunku then scored a brace in a 6-0 victory against Hertha BSC on September 25, 2021. After a week, he scored another brace in a victory over Vfl Bochum, making this the first time he scored back-to-back braces in his career. In May 2022, Nkunku won the 2021-22 Bundesliga Player of the Season award following scoring 20 times and assisting 13 goals in 34 league games.
International career
Christopher was born in France and is of Congolese descent. He was a French youth international representing the country at under-16, under-19, under-20, and under-21 levels. Nkunku made three appearances for the under-20 team at the 2017 FIFA U-20 World Cup. He was called up to the senior France team for the first time for friendly matches over Ivory Coast and South Africa on 25 and 29 March 2022, respectively.
