Gus Edwards is a recognized professional gridiron running back for the Baltimore Ravens of the National Football League (NFL). He initially played college football at Miami (FL) prior to transferring to Rutgers. Edwards signed with the Ravens as an undrafted free agent in 2018, and his nickname is ”Gus Bus”, referred for his large size and ”bruising” running style.

Gus attended and played college football from 2013 to 2016 at the University of Miami. He then moved to Rutgers in 2017 as a graduate transfer.

Professional career

2018

Gus signed with the Baltimore Ravens on May 4, 2018, as an undrafted free agent. On September 1, 2018, he was waived and was signed to the practice squad the following day. Edwards was promoted to the active roster on October 13, 2018. In Week 6 of the 2018 season, Edwards made his professional debut in the 21-0 win against the Tennessee Titans. In the game, he had 10 carries for 42 yards. He posted 17 carries for 115 yards and a touchdown in a win against the Cincinnati Bengals in Week 11.

On November 25, 2018, he then joined the elite company, when he recorded 23 carries for 118 yards in a 34-17 win against the Oakland Raiders. Edwards became the first Ravens’ rookie running back to have back-to-back 100+ yard rushing games since Jamal Lewis in the 2000 season. He then completed the season as the Ravens leading rusher with 718 rushing yards and 2 touchdowns. Edwards completed 5th among all rookie running backs in rushing yards. He later had 23 rushing yards in his playoff debut, a 23-17 defeat to the Los Angeles Chargers in the Wild Card.

2019

Gus rushed 8 times for 112 yards and a touchdown in the 41-7 victory over the Houston Texans in Week 11. He rushed 21 times for 130 yards in the 28-10 victory over the Pittsburgh Steelers in Week 17. In the 2019 season, he completed 133 carries for 711 rushing yards and 2 rushing touchdowns.

2021

On March 10, 2021, the Ravens placed a second-round restricted free-agent tender on him. On June 7, Edwards signed a two-year deal extension with the team worth $10 million. He later suffered a torn ACL during practice ending his season on September 9, 2021, and was put on injured reserve the next day.

2022

On August 23, 2022, he was placed on the reserve/PUP list to begin the season. Edwards was then activated on October 22.
