Konate made his second start of the season with Virgil van Dijk in the first North-West Derby of the season, in which Liverpool defeated Manchester United 5-0. This was the heaviest loss inflicted on United by Liverpool since 1895 and the heaviest loss United has suffered without scoring since 1955.
He then won plaudits from fans for how he handled star players like Bruno Fernandes and Cristiano Ronaldo and also featured in Garth Crooks’ team of the week. Konate later scored his first goal for Liverpool, a header in a 3-1 away victory over Benfica in the UEFA Champions League quarter-final first leg on April 5, 2022.
