Early career

Ismaila began his football career with the Senegalese football club Generation Foot.


He then signed his first professional deal with FC Metz for 5 years on July 13, 2016. Sarr then made his league debut against Lille OSC at Stade Saint-Symphorien, FC Metz’s home ground, which they won by 3-2, on August 13, 2016. In the game, Sarr played 20 minutes following being substituted for Florent Mollet.

Stade Rennais

Sarr joined Premier League club, Watford, on a five-year deal on August 8, 2019. The transfer fee paid to Rennes was a club record for Watford and reported as ”in the region of €30 million. Sarr then scored his first goal for the club in an EFL Cup tie over Coventry City on August 27, 2019. He picked up 2 goals and an assist in Watford’s 3-0 home win against defending UEFA Champions League winners Liverpool on February 29, 2020. This handed Liverpool their first loss of the 2019-20 season and ended the club’s 44-match unbeaten league run.

On April 24, 2021, he scored from the penalty spot in the club’s 1-0 home victory against Millwall in the Championship. This sealed their return to the Premier League following one season. He then ended as Watford’s top scorer for the 2020-21 season, scoring 13 goals. Sarr went on from where he left off as he scored in the club’s 3-2 victory over Aston Villa in their opening game of the 2021-22 Premier League season.
