Playing career
Eberl started his career as a defender with Bayern Munich in 1991. He then represented Germany at the 1993 FIFA World Youth Championship in Australia as a highly-rated youngster. During the tournament, Eberl started the group games against Ghana and Portugal.
Following making just one Bundesliga appearance in 2 years at Munich, he dropped down a division to the 2. Bundesliga to play for VfL. Bochum. He then spent 4 seasons at Bochum, split evenly between the top two divisions, prior to moving to Greuther Furth.
Eberl spent just 18 months playing for Furth prior to moving to Borussia Monchengladbach halfway through the 1998-99 season. He saw out the rest of his career with the club, retiring in 2005. In a career of more than 200 games in the first and second Bundesliga, he did not score any goals.
Coaching and managing career
He was appointed as the head of Borussia Monchengladvbach’s youth and amateur football programs briefly following his retirement in 2005. Eberl then took up the job as Borussia’s director of sport in 2008. In 2022, he retired and later became director of sport at RB Leipzig.
