Los Angeles Angels
The Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim picked him in the 4th round of the 2011 Major League Baseball draft. Clevinger spent 2011 with the rookie-level Orem Owiz and was then elevated to the Cedar Rapids Kernels the next year, pitching in 8 games. He then had elbow reconstruction surgery, and due to this, he just pitched in 3 total games in 2013.
Cleveland Indians
After pitching for 2 separate minor league organizations for the Angels in 2014, Clevinger was traded to the Cleveland Indians for Vinnie Pestano on August 7. He spent 2015 with the Double-A Akron RubberDucks, going 9-8 with a 2.71 ERA. Following the season, the Indians included him in their 40-man roster. On May 18, 2016, Clevinger was called up by the Indians and made his major league debut that evening. 2020

He and Plesac faced significant backlash from teammates on their behavior, with Oliver Perez revealing that he would exit the team if they returned to the roster. The teammates were also frustrated about potentially exposing Carlos Carrasco, who most recently had leukemia, to the coronavirus.
San Diego Padres
The Indians traded him together with Matt Waldron and Greg Allen to the San Diego Padres, on August 31, 2020. In exchange, they received Josh Naylor, Austin Hedges, Cal Quantrill, and minor league players Gabriel Arias, Joey Cantillo, and Owen Miller. Mike and the Padres agreed to a two-year deal extension on November 15, 2020, with annual salaries of $2 million in 2021 and $6.5 million in 2022, with a $3 million signing bonus.
