Zach began 12 games and finished 247 of 336 passes for 3,692 yards, 33 touchdowns, and 3 interceptions while rushing for 255 yards and 10 touchdowns. Wilson was then named the offensive MVP of the 2020 Boca Raton Bowl following finishing 26 of 34 passes for 425 yards and 3 touchdowns in the 49-23 win against UCF. Together with USC safety Talanoa Hufanga, they were picked as recipients of the 2020 Polynesian College Football Player of the Year Award.

As a top quarterback prospect in the 2021 NFL Draft, he was picked second overall by the New York Jets and was the second of five quarterbacks selected in the first round. Zach made his breakout against the Carolina Panthers, facing off with his Jets predecessor Sam Darnold. Following throwing an interception in the first half, he completed with 258 passing yards, 2 touchdowns, and a rushing 2-point conversion, although the Jets lost 19-14. In Week 2, during their home opener, he threw 4 interceptions against the New England Patriots consisting of his first 2 pass attempts. However, the Jets lost 25-6. After a 26-0 shutout defeat to the Denver Broncos, in which Wilson threw for 160 yards and 2 interceptions, he received his first career victory over the Tennessee Titans in Week 4.

In Week 7, Zach suffered a knee injury in the second quarter after being hit by linebacker Matthew Judon against the Patriots. Wilson was then ruled out of the rest of the game, with Mike White taking his place in the 54-13 defeat. After the loss, it was revealed that he had a sprained posterior cruciate ligament in his right knee, which led him to miss out of 4 games. He came back in Week 12 and won his first road game against the Houston Texans. Wilson also scored his first rushing touchdown in the game. He then lost four of his last 5 matchups, with his final victory of the season being against the Jacksonville Jaguars. But, he improved his turnover differential by not throwing an interception in the 5 games.
2022
Zach later missed out on the first 3 games of the 2022 season because of a non-contact bone bruise and meniscus tear he sustained in the preseason opener over the Philadelphia Eagles. Wilson then made his season debut over the Pittsburgh Steelers in Week 4, and although he threw 2 interceptions, he had a 2-yard receiving touchdown from wide receiver Braxton Berrios and guided the team on a 4th-quarter comeback drive to attain the 24-20 win. The next week, he finished 14 of 21 passes for 210 yards in a 40-17 rout of the Miami Dolphins.
